• Option 4: Lateral Relief. This is unique to red penalty areas and frequently used.

  • From this point, you may drop a ball within two club-lengths, no nearer the hole.
  • The two club-lengths are measured from the crossing point, and the relief area can extend into the fairway or rough, but not closer to the hole.
  • The dropped ball must land in and come to rest in the relief area.
